Thermal drone overwatch reaches the scene before the first appliance and shows the incident commander where the people and the fire are. The capability isn't the hard part — the lawful basis, the DPIA and the audit trail are. Warden is the software layer that answers those, so the flying can go ahead.

01 What changes on the ground
The first ten minutes of a structure fire, with a picture instead of a blank street.
A drone reaches the scene ahead of the appliances and streams thermal to the incident commander. Before the first crew is committed, the commander can see where heat signatures are, where the fire is travelling, and where not to send anyone — through smoke and in the dark.
Warden is not the aircraft. A licensed BVLOS operator flies it. Warden is the console the commander watches, the human authorisation that gates the flight, and the tamper-evident record of every decision taken.

02 The questions your DPO will ask
Answered in the architecture, not in a policy PDF bolted on afterwards.
Basis Why may we process this at all?
Public task (UK GDPR Art 6(1)(e)) — a statutory fire & rescue function; vital interests as the narrow fallback in an acute life threat. Casualty or health signals are special-category data under Art 9(2)(c).
Identity Are you identifying people?
No. Overwatch assesses a scene, never identifies a person. No facial-recognition or biometric model is integrated, and the architecture is built so one cannot be added without a governance change.
Storage What happens to the footage?
Live-only by default — nothing is recorded. Where a deployment opts to retain, a retention clock enforces deletion and the deletion is itself signed onto the record.
Proof How do we know the log is honest?
Every decision is hash-chained and signed. Anyone can re-verify it with a published public key and no secret. Check the maths yourself →

03 What a design partnership looks like

01 A conversation, then an MoU
A short memorandum of understanding — not a contract, no money, no exclusivity, no procurement process. It records what we're each doing and that either side can stop.
02 We co-author the DPIA
Your DPO owns it. We bring the pre-reasoned starter, the data-flow detail and the technical answers, and we change the product where your assessment says we should.
03 One governed test flight
With a licensed operator, on a training ground — not a live incident. The point is to produce one real, sealed, independently verifiable record and see whether the governance holds up in practice.
04 You keep the evidence
The DPIA, the record and the verification tooling are yours regardless of what happens next. If you decide the whole idea is wrong for your service, that's a valid and useful outcome.

Not A drone or a flight service
We don't build, sell or fly aircraft, and we hold no CAA authorisation. A licensed operator does the flying; Warden sits downstream and can't send a flight command.
Not A finished product
No live deployment, no pilot, and parts of the system are built but not yet in production. All of it is listed on the status page.
